One of my favorite winter hikes is at Spruce Mountain.  The snow emphasizes the rugged cliffsides, while fog and falling snow adds depth and peace to the landscape.  

Spruce Mountain is wonderful in winter when the fog and falling snow add depth to the sleeping landscape.

When I first saw this location during a morning hike, I knew it would make a great photography print, but that it needed afternoon light and interesting clouds.  I love the light interacting with the granite dikes and pillars, the palette of blue sky, golden grasses, and dark green evergreens, and the way the shape of the sky mirrors the shape of the trees.

This is a favorite view at Mueller State Park,  The rugged granite outcrops, pine and aspen trees are lit by moonlight with the Collegiate range in the distance and the stars shimmering above.  

A favorite nearby hike in the Front Range is Limbaugh canyon: aspen, summer flowers, and gentle breezes always make for a peaceful visit.

The snows were just starting to arrive when I took this moody photo at Mueller State Park.  It reminds me the Misty Mountains from JRR Tolkien's the Hobbit, or something out of Game of Thrones.  

I love the layers of hills and mountains that can be seen in Colorado.  The scenery goes on seemingly forever ....

At pink of dusk, the mountains and trees are reflected in the still waters of Lilly Lake. 

The La Sal Mountains peek through and around Delicate Arch, all lit by the glow of the setting sun. 

Fall colors abound looking down a Smoky Mountain valley, distant mountains on the horizon.

Capitol Reef National Park is truly beautiful: the red (and white) cliffs, canyons and spires, all weathered into intricate shapes.  It's hard to settle on what to photograph!  The photos for this panoramic landscape photography print was an easy decision: the setting sun enhances the colors and textures of the red-rock cliffs.

The unexpected early colorful dawn sky changed my planed location for my early morning photography hike to the Garden of the Gods. The few minutes surrounding sunrise were hectic, taking advantage of the amazing light. In this landscape photography print, I especially love how the sandstone cliffs glow, reflecting the red light of the sun as it breaks the horizon.

I loved this patch of sunflowers and the mottled light on the meadows and mountain.  A landscape photography print to remind you of those perfect summer days in the mountains!

My wife and I visited Smoky Mountain National Park while trying to decide where to move for the next stage of our careers.  It was wet and rainy with intermittent sun on the day I took this landscape image.  I had been reveling in the early fall color and dramatic clouds all day, but hadn't had any luck putting it all together to make a great nature photo .... until I saw a sunbeam approaching this valley.  Happily we were able to safely park for me to get the picture!

I found this beaver lodge along the alpine loop in the San Juans as nature was preparing for its winter rest.  

The mountains and flowers in summer are breathtaking - both from the views and the climb!

While visiting the Smoky Mountains, we made sure we were on Mt. Mitchell for sunset.  We were not disappointed!  The sunset was beautiful, as demonstrated by this landscape photography print: the pink sunset glowing over the blue layers of of the Smoky Mountains.

The streamers of rain add depth to this moody shot of the Colorado River Canyons outside of Arches National Park.

I love the way the last ruddy light of the setting sun highlights the dune peaks and emphasizes the rugged mountains behind.  The sunset colors on the clouds just add to the majesty of the moment at Great Sand Dunes National Park.
