Layers at Sunrise
I love the layers of hills and mountains that can be seen in Colorado. The scenery goes on seemingly forever ....

Midnight Mountain Majesty
I'd like to live in this cabin for a while (perhaps not in January ....). The fall colors are spectacular, and I've rarely experienced such dark skies. In fact, photographing the foreground was quite the challenge: I really had to kick up the ISO to get decent quality shots to average!

Milky Way from Chimney Rock Trail
The dramatic cliffs, valleys, and rock formations at Capitol Reef National Park are perfect for taking night landscape photos. The air is so clear that I was able to take this image even as the moon approached first quarter, allowing moonlight to light the amazing cliffs and foreground without not washing out the Milky Way. It was hard not to get lost in this breathtaking scene from Chimney Rock Trail (yes, that's me to the lower left of the landscape photography print).

Milky Way over Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak
I planned this shot for a while, waiting for a particularly clear night to reduce the light pollution and allow the full glory of the Milky Way to shine through. Alas, after over five tries, I realized there was just too much light from Colorado Springs. For this composite image I used a sky from the prior night. But this is what it would have looked like!

Milky Way over Monument Rock
These rocky towers occur along the Colorado Front Range. I had always feared that the Milky Way at Monument Rock would be overcome by Colorado Springs lights in any landscape photography; but a very clear night and a Southwest view away from the city minimized the light pollution! In this nature image I love how the photo moves from small plants (grasses, yucca and mullein), to Monument Rock dwarfing a tree growing directly in front, to the core of our galaxy in the background.

Milky Way over Pikes Peak
I planned this one for a while, waiting for early spring to have leaves on the trees, yet still enough snow on Pikes Peak. Finally weather, moon, snow, and the seasons aligned for this photo.

Milky Way over the Crags
I love the night sky. Couple it with one of my favorite local hikes, and you can't loose, even if it does make for a rather long hike back at night. I love the dramatic granite outcrops, the foreground trees reaching to the sky, and the Milky Way in all its glory.

Milky Way over the Hornbeck Homestead
The first time we visited the Florissant Fossil beds, I knew I had to photograph the homestead with the Milky Way overhead. I planned the shoot for several weeks, timing the weather, position of the moon for subtle lighting, and location of the Milky Way. We arrived ... to mostly cloudy skies. They provided a great sunset shot, but I had to wait until long after the moon set to make this nature photography image. I think my patience paid off for this fine art print!

Misty Evening at Devil's Head
I love the way fog and mists soften the landscape, adding depth and intensifying close colors.

Misty Mountains
The snows were just starting to arrive when I took this moody photo at Mueller State Park. It reminds me the Misty Mountains from JRR Tolkien's the Hobbit, or something out of Game of Thrones.

Morning Mists
As spring approaches, the lengthening days can start to melt streams frozen by the wrath of winter. I love the delicate mists that can rise from these creeks in the early morning, especially when they catch the light of early dawn.

Mountain Majesty at the Dunes
A friend and I hiked the Great Sand Dunes National Park at the end of March. It was an amazing time: the dunes were partially covered with snow, creating dramatic views of the dunes such as this one. It was also _very_ windy, as you can tell from the sand and snow blowing off the crests of the dunes. The contrast between the snow and dark sand, the graceful curves of the dunes, the wind patterns in the sand, and the shadows cast by the setting sun all added up to a magical evening!

Mountain Sunrise
I love the flowers growing amid the granite rocks, the glow of first light on the distant mountains, and sunlight gracing the tips of the foreground trees. It was a magical sunrise off Wolf Creek Pass.

Pasqueflower and Pinecone
I loved how the sun was highlighting this single pasqueflower and pinecones amid the pine needles in this simple minimalist nature image. The flower was a welcome addition to the early spring groundcover.

Pikes Peak, Detail from the Crags
When I first saw this location during a morning hike, I knew it would make a great photography print, but that it needed afternoon light and interesting clouds. I love the light interacting with the granite dikes and pillars, the palette of blue sky, golden grasses, and dark green evergreens, and the way the shape of the sky mirrors the shape of the trees.

Pink Sunset in the Smokies
While visiting the Smoky Mountains, we made sure we were on Mt. Mitchell for sunset. We were not disappointed! The sunset was beautiful, as demonstrated by this landscape photography print: the pink sunset glowing over the blue layers of of the Smoky Mountains.
