Hiking in the cold rain isn't always lots of fun, but rain?ÿcan sure bring out vibrant colors and help create a wonderful nature image!?ÿ These aspen in Mueller State Park, Colorado, joined by the granite outcrop, dark spruce, and golden grasses, stopped me in my tracks.?ÿ I just had to take this nature photography image to share!?ÿ

One of my favorite places in Illinois is Garden of the Gods at the southern tip.?ÿ It has dramatic sandstone cliffs overlooking the gently rolling wooded hills of the area.?ÿ I came out for sunset on this particular evening to make this landscape photography image the glow of the?ÿpastel?ÿsky on the sandstone cliffs.?ÿ ?ÿ

My wife and I spent time in the San Juan Mountains of southern Colorado this fall, and it was a spectacular experience.?ÿ These mountains are always breathtaking, and the fall colors and snowy mountains enhanced the beauty.?ÿ I captured this fine art landscape photograph as we drove through the San Juans, mesmerized by the endless variety of mountains, aspens, and evergreens. ?ÿ

I love how the light caught the the scene, particularly the simple lines of the water and how they were mirrored by the tree trunks framing the water.?ÿ All in all, a beautiful, restful nature photography image!

This is a favorite spot for me in Mueller State Park - from this vista you can see layers upon layers of hills culminating in the snow-capped Collegiate Peaks in the distance.?ÿ The last light of the sun was an added bonus as it lit the world with a ruddy glow.

I love the layers of hills and mountains that can be seen in Colorado.?ÿ The scenery goes on seemingly forever ....

This "string of pearls" of the moon passing through its eclipse was made by taking an image of the moon every 5 minutes throughout the eclipse.?ÿ It was a beautiful site despite the brutal wind and cold!

The setting moon illuminated the foreground in this shot.?ÿ I was amazed how well the tree silhouette matches the core of the Milky Way.?ÿ It makes for a striking shot.

I'd like to live in this cabin for a while (perhaps not in January ....).?ÿ The fall colors are spectacular, and I've rarely experienced such dark skies.?ÿ In fact, photographing the foreground was quite the challenge: I really had to kick up the ISO to get decent quality shots to average!

The dramatic cliffs, valleys, and rock formations at Capitol Reef National Park are perfect for taking night landscape photos.?ÿ The air is so clear that I was able to take this image even as the moon approached first quarter, allowing?ÿmoonlight to light the amazing cliffs and foreground without not washing out the Milky Way.?ÿ It was hard not to get lost in this breathtaking scene from Chimney Rock Trail (yes, that's me to the lower left of the landscape photography print).

The red rocks of Sedona, Arizona are spectacular, particularly from the Subway area.  Add the Milky Way .... majestic!

I planned this shot for a while, waiting for a particularly clear night to reduce the light pollution and allow the full glory of the Milky Way to shine through.?ÿ Alas, after over five tries, I realized there was just too much light from Colorado Springs.?ÿ For this composite image I used a sky from the prior night.?ÿ But this is what it would have looked like! ?ÿ

These rocky towers occur along the Colorado Front Range. I had always feared that the Milky Way at Monument Rock would be overcome by Colorado Springs lights in any landscape photography; but a very clear night and a Southwest view away from the city minimized the light pollution!?ÿ In this nature image I love how the photo moves from small plants (grasses, yucca and mullein), to Monument Rock dwarfing a tree growing directly in front, to the core of our galaxy in the background.

I planned this one for a while, waiting for early spring to have leaves on the trees, yet still enough snow on Pikes Peak.?ÿ Finally weather, moon, snow, and the seasons aligned for this photo.

I didn't know that Seven Falls, outside Colorado Springs, was lit by colored lights until I got there at night to photograph the night sky from Cutler Mountain.  But it works!

I love the night sky.?ÿ Couple it with one of my favorite local hikes, and you can't loose, even if it does make for a rather long hike back at night.?ÿ I love the dramatic granite outcrops, the foreground trees reaching to the sky, and the Milky Way in all its glory.

The first time we visited the Florissant Fossil beds, I knew I had to photograph the homestead with the Milky Way overhead. I planned the shoot for several weeks, timing the weather, position of the moon for subtle lighting, and location of the Milky Way. We arrived ... to mostly cloudy skies. They provided a great sunset shot, but I had to wait until long after the moon set to make this nature photography image. I think my patience paid off for this fine art print!

I love the way fog and mists soften the landscape, adding depth and intensifying close colors.

The snows were just starting to arrive when I took this moody photo at Mueller State Park.?ÿ It reminds me the Misty Mountains from JRR Tolkien's the Hobbit, or something out of Game of Thrones.?ÿ?ÿ

A winter's Sunrise in Rocky Mountain National Park, with the moon glowing above. I love the rich yellows and oranges of the valley contrasting with the bright blue sky over the snowy mountains.  A perfect peaceful morning!

The moon shines over Sprague Lake while the rising sun lights the snowy peaks with its ruddy glow.  Peaceful beauty at Rocky Mountain National Park!
