As spring approaches, the lengthening days can start to melt streams frozen by the wrath of winter. I love the delicate mists that can rise from these creeks in the early morning, especially when they catch the light of early dawn.

A friend and I hiked the Great Sand Dunes National Park at the end of March. It was an amazing time: the dunes were partially covered with snow, creating dramatic views of the dunes such as this one. It was also _very_ windy, as you can tell from the sand and snow blowing off the crests of the dunes. The contrast between the snow and dark sand, the graceful curves of the dunes, the wind patterns in the sand, and the shadows cast by the setting sun all added up to a magical evening!

I love the flowers growing amid the granite rocks, the glow of first light on the distant mountains, and sunlight gracing the tips of the foreground trees.?ÿ It was a magical sunrise off Wolf Creek Pass.

I was struck by the colors, and shadows on Mt Herman near Monument CO, especially as they contrasted with the green pines and blue distant Front Range

This is a favorite view at Mueller State Park,?ÿ The rugged granite outcrops, pine and aspen trees are lit by moonlight with the Collegiate range in the distance and the stars shimmering above.?ÿ?ÿ

Starlight from the Milky Way highlights the curves of the dunes while a faint aurora glows above.  A magic night at Great Sand Dunes National Park!

While I understand that some people like to explore old mines, the thought of trying to reach this one near Creede - and then falling into some deep dark shaft - strikes me as too much for my old body!  

I loved how the sun was highlighting this single pasqueflower and pinecones amid the pine needles?ÿin this simple minimalist nature image.?ÿ The flower was a welcome addition to the early spring groundcover.?ÿ

It is spectacular to be high above the tree line in the summer!?ÿ The mountains seem to go forever, with flowers adding their special colors.

When I first saw this location during a morning hike, I knew it would make a great photography print, but that it needed afternoon light and interesting clouds.?ÿ I love the light interacting with the granite dikes and pillars, the palette of blue sky, golden grasses, and dark green evergreens, and the way the shape of the sky mirrors the shape of the trees.

While visiting the Smoky Mountains, we made sure we were on Mt. Mitchell for sunset.?ÿ We were not disappointed!?ÿ The sunset was beautiful, as demonstrated by this landscape photography print: the pink sunset glowing over the blue layers of of the Smoky Mountains.

Golden Aspen stretch towards heaven against the deep blue sky.

Being new to Colorado, this fancy-pedaled flower was new to me, and a must-shoot!?ÿ I left the other blossoms out of focus to add depth to this nature image, and remove distractions from the grass.?ÿ Unfortunately I haven't seen one in the year since; I didn't realize how lucky I was to see it.

What is more beautiful than a reflecting mountain lake at fall, especially if it's off Kebler Pass?

The snow-clad Sangre de Cristo mountains shimmer behind granite outcrops on Pikes Peak.  

The Crags is one of my favorite local hikes: it offers spectacular views both near and far.  Here the distant Collegiate Range, bathed in the glow of sunrise, peaks through intervening hills  rising above a sea of fog.

The beauty of sunlit cottonwoods, a life-giving river, foreboding clouds, and the hawk, watching over all. ?ÿFine Art Nature Photography by McClusky Nature Photography ?ÿ

It was a photographers dream: there had been a light snow overnight, yet we woke to a sunny morning.?ÿ The warmth of the sun quickly created wispy fog and low clouds, playing hide and seek with the gold and orange aspen trees.?ÿ It all made for a glorious fine art photograph!

The changing moods of Rocky Mountain National Park fascinate me. We brought my mother to Rocky Mountain National Park for a snowy day, and while we weren't about to do much hiking, it was still a wonderful visit. The falling snow hindered views of the mountain peaks, but made for dramatic, moody scenes, such as this landscape image, as distant mountainsides lurked behind snow squalls. ?ÿ
